The song Ben, the theme of a 1972 film of the same name(the sequel to the 1971 killer rat movie Willard), spent one week at the top of the U.K. pop chart. It also reached number-one on the Australian pop chart, spending eight weeks at the top spot. The song also later reached a peak of number seven on the U.S. pop chart.
The song became the first of five number-one pop hits for Jackson in the U.K and his first number one as a solo artist. Later included on Jackson's album of the same name, "Ben" won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best song.
"Ben has meant a lot to me. Nothing thrilled me more that going in studio and recording the music of a film. It was verry funny. Later, when the film appeared, i went to the cinema and i stayed till the end when the slogan appeared and it said: The song Ben is sung by Michael Jackson. This really impressed me. I love the song and i like the action of the film. The song goes to number I in the tops and i love it and today" ( Michael Jackson Moonwalk)
